École visit the Alhambra

05/09/2009

A few of the Theatre École members, including two of the Young Board, visited the recently restored Alhambra in Dunfermline and took the opportunity to tread the boards on a much larger stage.

The Alhambra in Dunfermline was recently saved from the bulldozers having lay empty for a number of years after a brief spell as a bingo hall in which one of Scotland's biggest stages lay behind a false ceiling and walls.

With an investment of over £2m it's now a thriving venue and home to a number of local amateur groups, much like Theatre École, along with receiving big name Comedy, Live Music and Musical acts from around the UK.

A number of École members attended the recent Open Day, getting a chance to see first-hand how a real theatre is ran, along with the opportunity to meet (and question!) the venue's technical staff including lighting, sound, wardrobe and stage management team as well as allowing them to participate in a short dance class on the stage whilst our TD wandered around the fly tower with his counterpart at the Alhambra.

A couple of "open rehearsals" gave the École members an insight into how other groups operate, and I'm sure a few ideas they got will work themselves into Theatre École in the future.

A big thank you to all at the Alhambra, Dunfermline for allowing us to experience your magnificent venue - and to our Technical Team, Ross and Morven, for organising the visit.
