Our technical team have the thankless task of converting the hall of Queens Park
Church into "Theatre at Queens", a fully equipped performance space with modern
lighting and sound facilities.
Having these resources ourselves allows our cast to rehearse on the same stage on which they will perform, as well as allowing them to experience the "behind the scenes" aspects of technical theatre.
Theatre École was joined from 2008-2010 by Ross McKillop and Morven Henderson who brought extensive experience from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe creating temporary performance spaces as well as providing sound, lighting and stage management support.
Our modest venue has a capcity of around 150, although this varies depending on the production, with a partially raked auditorium ensuring an excellent view of the stage from any position.
The stage was recently fitted with a basic permenant lighting rig and a front-of-house lighting position was installed. A raised control gallery at the rear of the auditorium is constructed for each performance.
Under the direction of our Resident Stage Manager, Garry Hogg, Our backstage team work tirelessly preparing the sets, costume and props almost entirely in house for each production, and their dedication shows in the end result.
When visiting Theatre École, or any theatre, there are many many people working in the wings, backstage, dressing rooms, control gallery and offices in order to make the show happen. We recognise that these dedicated individuals are as important to the success of the show as our talented cast members and invite members of Theatre École to take part in these areas and gain a better understanding of the diverse roles within the theatre.
Theatre École gratefully acknowledge Kirkby Sound Engineering, Ross McKillop (LX) and MML Lighting (Edinburgh) for their generous help and support.
